Covid Vaccines 5-11

Yesterday the ACIP and the CDC approved the use of the Pfizer mRNA vaccine in a lower dose form for all children aged 5-11. As with the adult version, it is a two shot series given 3 weeks apart. Previously, the FDA issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) for this product. The vaccine has been authorized to be given in conjunction with the flu vaccine or near the time when other vaccines were administered. It will be available in different venues which will be announced soon. They consist of private offices, (including Unionville Pediatrics sometime soon), pharmacies and multiple sites across the state. A large statewide event is being planned for November 14th. You can find sites based on zip code by visiting this URL: ct.gov/covidvaccine. A quick visit found it easy to use, already providing many options.

There will be a similar message sent through Athena in the next few days. Despite our best effort, registering to provide the vaccine has been challenging. We will keep patients updated and hope to be up and running in the next few weeks if not sooner. All vaccines will be given at the Main Office, not the Acute Care Center.
